A Goldfish in the Ear
a new novel by Jonathan Greenyer
A Goldfish in the Ear is black comedy, a complex and surreal
conspiracy thriller, interwoven with cutting and sideways observations of those things in life that annoy, distract and confuse
both the Author and the characters in the novel. And maybe it's also a tad autobiographical as well.
It's set in current times, our hero is Jake – 25ish, an advertising man in a vast, corrupt
company called Acme Holdings run by a ruthless and powerful man that Jake really wants to impress. Jake
is very ambitious but he’s also very easily distracted by anything he encounters that’s innovative, new and shiny
– and this happens all the time. All around him are people involved directly and indirectly in strange
plots, sub-stories and complex conspiracies involving cloning and world domination. He stumbles into one
conspiracy after another until his life is at risk from what he knows. Will he survive? Is
there a resolution to all these conspiracies?
The story includes a host of strange characters and even
stranger events including a resurrected Neanderthal priest called UGGG; a high-level cloning conspiracy involving the Prime
Minister; boneless turkeys; theme pubs; COLIN, a misanthropic computer; InstaBuild, a super-fast construction company; intergalactic
aliens with appetite and attitude; nano-technology and yet more!
Even his family are not what they seem – i.e. they are
not his family. His sister is not his sister, his father is not his father - and the family butler puts a goldfish in his
ear as senility sets in. Bless!
